About Us

Magnetic North is an award-winning theatre company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was formed in 1999 by theatre and opera director Nicholas Bone to create and develop new work.

Working with actors, playwrights, designers, composers and other artists, and through a integrated programme of creative research & development, artist support and production, we have created a distinctive body of cross-artform performance work that is stylish, articulate and individual.

We enable and facilitate creative development for artists through our Rough Mix and Space/Time residencies. These give an opportunity for theatre makers to collaborate with other practitioners, try out new ideas and introduce them to an audience.

We have collaborated with organisations like the Southbank Centre, Tramway, Comar, Dundee Rep and Cumbernauld Theatre to produce work. Among our recent productions are Pass the Spoon - a collaboration with Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley and award-winning composer David Fennessy - A Walk at the Edge of the World - an award-winning collaboration with environmental artists Sans façon - and Sex and God - a play by the acclaimed playwright Linda McLean, which will receive its French language premiere in 2015.
