Exhibition: 15th May – 5th June (11am – 5pm daily)
Underground is a multi-artform exhibition bringing work created by video artists, performers and composers to Summerhall’s Basement Galleries.
The works include performance to camera, responses to specific locations both rural and urban, sound and text, and are presented variously as installation, single monitor works and screen projections. The works have been brought together by visual artist Su Grierson, who was involved in each of the projects. The widely different outcomes of the collaborations are the result of a truly collaborative working process that responded in each case to the overall dynamics of the participants and the nature of the project.
The exhibition was inspired by Su’s participation in Rough Mix, at Summerhall in September 2015. She was interested in the idea of showing work made at that time, often in response to the building itself, back in the very same spaces. To this mix she has added works created in other collaborative situations
Discussion event, Saturday 21st May at 2.30pm - free
Deeper Underground is a panel discussion exploring the philosophies and practice of multi-art form collaboration. It explore whether there can be such a thing as a true collaboration – particularly for performance work - or will one artist’s vision always dominate? Hosted by Magnetic North, the event will be chaired by Artistic Director Nicholas Bone and panelists will include visual artist Su Grierson, sound artist Zoe Irvine and electronic artist Jules Rawlinson.
The event will be preceded by an exhibition viewing with some of the artists from 1.30pm.
Exhibition is open daily 11am-5pm from 15th May-4th June at Summerhall, 1 Summerhall, Edinburgh, EH9 1PL. Free entry.
