Artist Attachment was a major paid opportunity for Scottish-based artists with a significant track record from any art form to focus on a new development in their work over a sustained period. It was supported by Jerwood Arts.
The attachment offered a bursary to cover six months of work over an eighteen month period and a budget for expenses. The artists were supported throughout by Magnetic North’s core team and received regular mentoring from Artistic Director Nicholas Bone.
Two Artist Attachments have taken place: Hanna Tuulikki from 2017-19 and Jenna Watt from 2018-20.

Jenna Watt
The 2018-20 Artist Attachment was awarded to theatremaker Jenna Watt. Jenna used the opportunity to research rewilding in Scotland.
She will work with communities, conservationists and other custodians of the land to create a series of site-specific performances. At the end of her attachment, Jenna will draw this work together to create a performance which explores how the act of rewilding could also rewild our lives.

Hanna Tuulikki
The 2017-19 Artist Attachment was awarded to Hanna Tuulikki, a visual artist, composer, and performer who works with the voice.
Hanna used the attachment to explore how her practice could incorporate dance. The focus of the work was the development of a new project, Deer Dancer, in which Hanna investigated the mimesis of deer in traditional dances around the world in order to develop a 'trans-species' contemporary performance inspired by these dance traditions.
Deer Dancer premiered at Edinburgh Printmakers as part of the 2019 Edinburgh Art Festival.
