Call-out for Performers and Collaborating Artist

Magnetic North is seeking performers and a collaborating artist to take part in the next edition of Rough Mix, our creative development residency for artists from any discipline.

About Rough Mix

Rough Mix is a paid two-week lab that brings together artists from theatre, dance, music, film, visual art and other fields to develop new ideas in a collaborative environment. Led by Magnetic North’s Artistic Director, Nicholas Bone, the programme supports experimentation, cross-artform collaboration and new partnerships.

“Exactly what I wanted and needed. A development experience in a safe space with a dynamic and interesting group.”
— Sara Shaarawi, playwright

Roles

Collaborating Artist
A professional artist from any discipline who has had work produced, performed or exhibited. You will work alongside the lead artists, supporting their projects and exploring new ways of working. (Not open to recent graduates unless they already have a professional practice.)

Performers
We are looking for four performers to form an ensemble working across all projects in the lab. Applicants should have experience in devising, be curious about cross-disciplinary collaboration, and have some background in movement and/or music. Dancers, physical performers, singers, instrumentalists and multi-skilled artists are encouraged to apply.

Priority will be given to artists based in Scotland, particularly the Highlands and Islands.

“There will be positive and significant resonances from this experience felt in my work for many years to come.”
— Alan McKendrick, playwright and director

Residency Details

The residency runs 2–13 February 2026 at Eden Court, Inverness. Sessions are Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm, concluding with a public sharing on Friday 13 February.

Participants will receive a fee of £1,270. Travel and accommodation will be provided for those living more than 25 miles from Inverness.

Access and Equalities

We are committed to supporting diversity and inclusion. At least one place will be prioritised for a D/deaf or disabled artist and another for a Global Majority artist. A separate access budget is available for applicants and participants.
